USP Scholarship Program
Utility Safety Partners’ Scholarship Program aims to foster the next generation of leaders in utility safety by supporting and encouraging students who demonstrate a commitment to safety and a passion for advancing their education in fields that help progress public, worker, community, and utility safety.
Eligibility Criteria:
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Enrollment: Must be enrolled in an accredited vocational / technical training institute, college, or university pursuing a journeyperson ticket, diploma or degree related to one of the following disciplines:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical
- Engineering Technician
- Health and Safety
- Power Lineperson
- Public Safety
- Skilled Trades
- Urban Planning
- Academic Performance
- For students entering post-secondary studies, equivalent to a 80% average.
- For active post-secondary students, a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Commitment to Safety: Demonstrated interest in utility safety and damage prevention through work experience, coursework, projects, internships, or volunteer experience.
- Community Involvement: Active participation in community service or safety advocacy initiatives.
- Recommendation: A letter of recommendation from a faculty member or professional in the utility safety field.
- Permanent Alberta resident studying in Alberta.
Application Process
Applying for this scholarship is easy! Login to ScholarTree and complete the Utility Safety Partners Scholarship Application Form, ensuring all information and details are accurately provided.
All applications must be submitted by April 30, with scholarships awarded to recipients for the Fall semester of the same year.
Selection Process
A selection committee will review applications based on the following criteria:
- Academic performance and potential
- Quality and clarity of applicant’s personal statement
- Demonstrated commitment to utility safety and community involvement
- Strength of letter of recommendation
Two selected recipients will be notified by no later than June 30 of the application year.
Scholarship Amount
$2,500 will be provided directly to two recipients’ educational institutions to be applied toward tuition, fees, and other educational expenses.
Additional Information
Upon completion of the academic year, scholarship recipients will provide Utility Safety Partners with a brief report summarizing how the scholarship has impacted their educational journey.
Recipients agree to publish their name and image on the Utility Safety Partners website and social media channels.
