Step 1:

The Worker’s Responsibility

If you are planning to conduct a ground disturbance, click before you dig at least 3 to 5 full working days in advance of the planned ground disturbance.

Submit your request a minimum of 3 to 5 business days in advance of when you will be ready to start work. Response times may be longer during the busy season (May – September).

 

Step 2:

Utility Safety Partners’ Responsibility

Our responsibility is to notify registered utility owners of the work planned near their buried infrastructure or overhead asset.

Utility Safety Partners will:

  • Assign a ticket number to your locate request.
  • Notify registered asset owners with buried utilities within the vicinity of the dig site.
  • Keep a record of your request should follow-up be required.

 

Step 3(A):

Overhead Asset Notification

If your work area is in the vicinity of a registered overhead power line, Utility Safety Partners will automatically respond to you with a notice of proximity and instructions on how to work safely around overhead power lines. The information package contains contact information for the utility owners if more information is required before you proceed.

 

Step 3(B):

Registered Asset Owner’s Responsibility

Respond to the worker making the request by providing clearance or identifying the location of the buried infrastructure.

After the minimum notice period has passed, utility operators are expected to:

  • Identify and mark the location of their utilities; or
  • Contact you to arrange a mutually acceptable time to complete the location; or
  • Provide written clearance to proceed with your project without a locate.
